Beauty Security for your wedding

When it comes to planning your wedding hair and makeup, think about using a team that has the network of several hundred people, just incase!

Columbus Traveling Beauty Team started when Christine Carpenter started working within the Salon Lofts organization. Salon Lofts is the largest salon/ spa company that allows independent hairstyles, estatician (works with skin care and makeup), and nail professionals all to rent an area of space within one of their salons. As of June 2014, there are over 50 locations throughout Ohio (Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Dayton), Florida (Tampa), Indiana (Indianapolis), Missouri (St. Louis), and Georgia (Atlanta). There are around 1100 artists within the Salon Lofts organization.

On your wedding day, you don't want to have to worry if your hair and makeup are going to be taken care of if something happens to your artist. We have come across several independent artists that have had their child get very sick and no one to take care of them (except their mother), a death in the family (causing the artist to have to cancel to go out of town), or just being sick.

The great thing about the ladies of Columbus Traveling Beauty Team, if anything were to happen to anyone of them, we have others in our team that can take over, and if they happen to be booked, we have an entire network that we know and trust to get the bride taken care of.

We also have an entire network of wedding professionals that we can assist you with other aspects of your wedding. We know several event planners (which is handy to have for your day of the wedding, "just in case"), photographers, cake places, florists, videographers, etc....  If you have any questions, we are happy to assist you with them. We do like to consider ourselves at the concierge beauty artists (meaning help in any way we can!).

Let the team that has the power to always help you out for your wedding, without the worry. Let Columbus Traveling Beauty Team be your go to hair (hairstyling and extensions), airbrush makeup (or traditional), and nail team.

Time is a valuable thing to waste, especially when it comes to weddings!

If you have ever been involved with the behind the scene of a wedding, you know that everything come to down to good timing.

When we here at Columbus Traveling Beauty Team are asked to do work for a bride to be (and bridal party members, too), we make sure to ask how many people are getting services. At 3 weeks before the wedding we have the bride take care of the total balance of all the party members. This way we know exactly how many people we need to take with us to make sure that everyone gets ready in a timely manor.

Starting out, we used to wait until the day of to collect the balance. We have shown up thinking we were going to do 5 people and here 5 more decided to get their hair or makeup done, then we would wait for everyone to have to pay us. It took up so much time waiting on payments, we felt like everyone was running behind.

Once we started collecting in full, everything ran so much more efficiently. Our aim to get the party members completed in less than 3 hours, no matter how big the party size is. Because we do wedding parties, most weekends during wedding season, our team knows how to make everyone look and feel their best in a short period of time.

When it comes to looking for the best wedding (bridal) hairstylist (that also specializes in affordable hair extensions), airbrush makeup (and traditional makeup), and nail artists that travels throughout Ohio, that keeps your party running on time, check out the award winning team of Columbus Traveling Beauty Team!

Tips for preparing for your big day!

To makeup sure your hair and makeup look best on your wedding day, follow these tips.

Hair:
  • ·      Don’t shampoo your hair on the day of (neither should any of your other party members)
  • ·      Don’t try anything new on your hair care products at home the last week before your wedding (just incase if it cases you to break out.
  • ·      Don’t flat iron your hair after your last shampoo before your big day so curls will actually stay in your hair.
  • ·      Do highlight 2 weeks before your wedding at the latest so you don’t show up too bright on the day of. (also, you’ll have time to get it corrected if it comes out too light)
  • ·      All over color should be applied 1 week before your wedding at the latest.

Makeup:
  • ·      Make sure to let your artist know any allergies you have, and if any product did not work for you during your trial (if you had one)
  • ·      Get waxed 3 days before your wedding at the latest so that your skin is somewhat back to normal and makeup will take to your skin properly.
  • ·      Do NOT spray tan the week of your wedding. Don’t want to see anyone orange in pictures or streaky at all.
  • ·      Make sure to start exfoliating your face once a week until 1 week before your wedding.
  • ·      When looking in the mirror, you might think your makeup looks like there is a lot, but the camera actually takes 25% of the color out of your face. We can take a picture with our phones to show you how you might turn out in pictures.
  • ·      If you are getting tattoos covered, please shave those areas (if you are able to) and do not moisturize in those areas (so the cover up will go on smoothly and look natual).
  • ·      Make sure to moisturize your knees and elbows so they don’t look dull that day (coconut oil works great)
  • ·      You can use a mixture of Coconut oil and granulated sugar as a good lip and facial scrub. (really helps remove makeup too). And anyother dry areas on the body.
  • ·      Avoid salty food (makes you retain water, especially in the face) carbonated sodas (if possible,), lots of dairy (can upset an anxious stomach), beans (can bloat you) and starchy foods (can cause bloating and gas). I know, not much fun.
  • ·      Get plenty of sleep the night before and drink plenty of water the last few days before your wedding and on the day of.

Arrange to have a trial for hair and makeup within 1-2 months of your wedding so that your hair and skin are close to the condition they will be on your wedding day. If you do a trial before then you can at least see the work of the artist, but keep in mind all of the changes that might occur between now and then. Bishop Watterson Fashion Show

On March 8th, 2014, Rachel Cooper, Cami Minton, Shirley Smith, and Christine Carpenter all went to help Bishop Watterson's style show participants at the Villa Milano event center.

We helped out around 20 ladies with hair and/ or makeup for the show. Here is a couple images from the show!

Helping other stylist out!

On January 18th, 2014, when the wedding season was pretty slow, one hairstylist at the Salon Lofts  that most of our team works out of, approached me (Christine Carpenter) to help her with a friends wedding party.

Since I was available I decided to help out. It was a little different to actually work on an entire wedding party in the salon. It was also a little stressful, also. Everyone was scattered between 4 different lofts, which made it harder to communicate between all of the party involved.

When we travel to a hotel or venue (sometimes even people's homes), most people are in the same room where we can make sure that the bride likes all the hair and makeup of the party members, since her and her husband to be will be looking back at the pictures years later.

This picture is of a couple CTBT ladies doing a wedding in a hotel, that was so much less stressful since everyone was in one place and very close to where the wedding was being held at. This bride had nothing to worry about, and was super happy to talk with her ladies as she got ready. This way they could all help her decide if anything  needed to be changed or not.

Anytime you have a big event, why travel to the salon, when you can have the salon come to you? This also can help reduce the stress of the day to come. Contact Columbus Traveling Beauty Team for your hair, makeup, and nail needs.

The services we do.

Why should someone count on a professional makeup artist to do their makeup for their wedding or hire a different hairstylist to do their hair?

Our team, Columbus Traveling Beauty Team, has a whole team of artists to help those that need help with makeup and hair services.  You might ask yourself, "I have a hair dresser and I do my makeup by myself daily, why do I need a team like this?"

To answer your question about the hair portion. When it comes to your wedding day (or even a very special occasion), everyone wants to look their very best. Our hair is a very important part of it (for lots of ladies). We want the style of our hair to enhance the look of our dress.

You might even require hair extensions (in which we offer 6 different methods). A lot of hairstylist have never worked with extensions. You would want to make sure that whatever method of extensions that are put in, don't show how they are attached to your own hair, or cause the extensions to come out when take your hair down from your formal style.

Also, lots of hairstylist are great at doing your cuts and colors, but there are some that don't feel comfortable doing formal styles (especially brides). Our hairstylist (and duel artists) not only do formal styles, but we love doing them. We also enjoy doing cuts, colors, extensions, smoothing treatments, and other aspects of being an independent hairstylist.

Ok, you might understand our thinking on the hairstylist, but why makeup artist?

Well, when we look back at the pictures of our wedding (or that special occasion), we want to remember just how beautiful we looked.

Everyday makeup looks great for everyday looks, BUT, how often do you wear the most beautiful dress and walk down an aisle in front of lots of family and friends, while also having thousands of pictures taken of you in one day?

Our artists are trained to help enhance the most beautiful areas of the face, and help hide those areas that we (you) dislike. This is known as contouring. On a daily basis we don't take the time to properly contour our face, like we should for pictures.

Plus, we can save you money by already having all the products you would need to properly contour your face and look best in photos.

This picture of one of our past brides named Sharon. If Sharon were to have to buy all of the products to complete the total look she has here, she would have to save up a ton of money for her wedding. Here is what we put on Sharon and the total cost of the products.

Urban Decay's Anti Aging Eyeshadow primer $24 (Ulta)
Urban Decay's Naked Pallet (#1) $54 (Ulta)
Urban Decay's Naked Pallet #2  $54 (Ulta)
Tarte Cosmetic's Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner (upper lid)  $24
Tarte Cosmetic's Skinny smolerEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof liner (lower lid) $19
Tarte Cosmetic's Lights, Camera, Splashes 4-1 Waterproof Mascara ($20)
Temptu Airbrush foundation (4 colors total to help contour and highlight) The compressor with a foundation holder $170 (comes with 1 of the foundation colors), but you would need to take the time to properly learn to use it and know where to contour the face at. The additional 3 colors would add up to $135.You would also need 2 colors to conceal her back, like we did on her wedding day to hide any imperfections there. That would be an additional $76. Plus you would need the primer to put underneath $35.
Mirabella bronzer $36.
2 colors of Mirabella Pressed Powder to con our with $78
Mirabella concealer $20
Ulta LipCrayon $8
NYX lip cream $6
Ardell lashes $4
Duo glue $6
Tarte Cosmetics Amazonian Clay Waterproof brow mouse $28
Costal Sense 22 piece brush set $35
Blender Sponge $6

The total cost would have been $946 for just the makeup with a few tools, (but not all the tools we carry with us to keep our products totally sanitary to not cause infections on others). Plus she would have to learn how to properly put on the airbrush makeup. Instead she had a team come to her, and a trial at the salon for 1/4 of the cost.

If you are ever in need of some assistance with hair and makeup, make sure to contact Columbus Traveling Beauty Team for your next big event.  We would love to help you out!

2014 weddings

Sometime when we get really busy, we don't get the chance to write about our exciting adventures that we have gotten to do. Today when I was on Facebook, I found a blog entry from a local photographer that was just writing about her final bride of 2013. For her, the last bride had ended in November. For us, we actually had our final one on December 21st.

I'm going to TRY to take a little time (when I have it) to talk a little about our experiences with brides. Sometimes we hear some of the best stories. Sometimes, it's great reactions to our work. With at in mind, I do have to say that we have been very blessed not to ever have a bad bride.

Our team has definitely experienced brides who think they know what they want to look like on the day of their wedding, but the closer it gets, they start to question their choices. In those situations, we take our professional opinion out and set it in the table. If we feel something could look better, we will tell you. After all, it is part of our job to help you look your very best.

After 22 years of doing hair, and over 10 years of studying makeup and then finally getting the confidence of doing it (2 years later then 5 years later that I would actually do a bride). I feel like I know what will look great with the facial features and body types of anyone.

I've really learned a lot more once my husband started studying photography. When to shoot, what style of makeup works best for what type of lightening, and Knowing the style of that particular person. Many times we will sit down and watch his "training videos" together so I can learn what other photographers have to say. Learning from others is always an enjoyment.

With all this in mind, we hope you will start to watch our blog and learn/ enjoy it.

Take care until our next writing adventure,

-sincerely,
Chris

The advantage of airbrush makeup

We have many clients they are always unsure why we use airbrush makeup on most everyone. Here are a few reasons we do.

1) We have decided not to charge an additional fee for the airbrush, because it is very convenient when it comes to traveling. You can apply the foundations with or without the compressor (we mainly use the compressor because it does go on so much smoother)
2) Airbrush makeup is water resistant, sweat proof, and
3) Extremely light, but can give you a flawless coverage or just a light coverage. Just talk to your makeup professional about what you hope to achieve on your wedding day or special event.
4) For those that have had problems with makeup in the past, this is hypo-allergenic.
5) Airbrush makeup is also the most sanitary makeup on the market.
6) We use 3 different formula's (SB, water, and dura- an alcohol based for tattoo/ scar coverage) to help all sorts of issues with the skin. We can help determine which is the best for the areas of concern.
7) The dura formula helps on the body for tattoo coverage, acne scaring, and uneven skin tones. It's wonderful since you don't have to worry about it transferring to your dress.
8) Men can have the foundation put on to help with acne and other issues on the face and not feel like they are wearing makeup.
9) Getting airbrushed is something most people never do on their own. It feels great. How often do people get married? You don't do that everyday, so why does your makeup (and hair) have to look like you do everyday? I'm not saying you need to look totally different. Just more enhanced.
10) Doesn't everyone want to look like a celebrity?
